GRWM: Casual look

Tuesdays are my days off uni so me and my friend planned to go to the cinema and Christmas markets in Manchester.

When I’m doing something casual like this I like to go for the more natural makeup look and comfy clothes. My hair just depends on how much it needs a wash (gross I know) and today it needed a wash very badly.

For my makeup I’ve gone for a natural brown shadow, my hair is in fishtail plaits, and I’m just wearing a t-shirt and dungaree dress.

Face products I used:

  • No7 Airbrush Away Pore Minimising Primer
  • PS strobing highlighting cream
  • No7 Stay perfect foundation
  • PS volumising mascara
  • No7 beautiful eyebrow sculpting pencil
  • MAC blusher (Desert Rose)
  • MAC eyeshadow (Charcoal Brown)
  • MUA cover and conceal
  • PS contour stick
  • Collection clear brow mascara
  • PS velvet matte lipstick crayon

  • ‘Run forest run’ Bubba Gump t-shirt
  • Topshop pinafore dress
  • Boohoo fedora hat

  • Pandora leather bracelet & charm (worn as necklace)
  • Casio watch
  • Pandora rings (Aquamarine birthstone and flower)

So that was my first ever ‘get ready with me’. I’m not the best at makeup but I try and I’d like to try new things but I have to be careful with what foundation I use as my skin is acne prone.

If I could change anything it would be my eyebrows as they currently look like slugs but as you know I’m trying to grow them out so I need to leave them alone as much as I can regarding the plucking.

If you have any tips and tricks then I’d be happy to hear them.

My Saturday night in: Cheap pamper sesh with my boyfriend

It’s coming up to Christmas, I’ve got a lot of uni work to do and I don’t have a lot of money to go out. Which means I’m stressed and poor.

I haven’t been looking after my skin as much as I’d like to as I decided to wait til Christmas so that I could get nicer skincare that won’t cause my face to breakout, however seen as it’s ‘that time of the month’ my skin isn’t the best it could be.

I decided to go to a shop called Body Care as I know they do some decent, cheap products and I really wanted to try tinting my eyebrows at home.

Products used:

  • Beauty Formulas tea tree deep cleansing nose pore strips (99p)
  • Colorsport 30 day brow tint (£2.99)
  • Beauty Formulas charcoal clay mask (99p)

Step 1

Me and my boyfriend used the nose strips first to get rid of any blackheads and dry skin we had. These are great because they do what they say on the packaging and they’re only 99p, which is a bargain for these as for some reason they are so much more expensive everywhere else (£6 at Boots!!).

Step 2

We did the face mask next which was extremely refreshing. This was also a complete bargain so I can’t really complain about the results as it basically does what you expect. I like how it makes your face feel cold because to me that means that it’s doing something even if it’s not something that makes my skin look amazing and that it’s not a complete waste of money.

Step 3

My boyfriend didn’t follow this step as he already has nice eyebrows. This is the second time I’ve tinted my eyebrows. Before starting the tinting I plucked and shaped my brows a bit. As you can tell my brows are extremely patchy due to over-waxing them (by a pro btw, I didn’t do them myself) and I like the naturally thicker look so I am growing them and filling them in with the tint.

The tint worked as in it made my brows darker however it didn’t fill in the patchiness which is fair enough, it wasn’t expensive and it more or less did what it said it would do.

Overall I feel I’ve had a successful pamper sesh, especially because of how cheap the products were. My boyfriend seems to enjoy the soft skin they have given him and I’ll continue to use the products until I can afford something better. I’ll also use them when my skin is looking bad. So if you’re down-in-the-dumps like me then I reccomend!!

My travel bucket list

First of all sorry I haven’t posted in a while, I’ve been VERY busy planning my uni assignments which are due next month, and of which I have to produce a newspaper, come up with a magazine proposal, produce a video that is worthy to be shown on TV news whilst preparing to present that for our course newsday AND get ready for an in-class test.

Second of all, I’ve been thinking of doing this post for a while but always wanted to do one on something else more, however even though I adore the cold I am missing the sun and thought imagining myself abroad would be a decent way to spend my day off.

So heres my travel bucket list. I have been lucky enough to tick some of the places off thanks to my parents and would also love to revisit these places again.

  • Australia
  • Mexico
  • Cape Verde
  • Paris
  • Rome
  • Lake Garda
  • Verona
  • Venice
  • Clearwater Beach
  • New York
  • Thailand
  • The Bahamas
  • Hawaii
  • Jamaica
  • Barbados
  • London
  • Scotland
  • Amsterdam
  • Iceland
  • Morocco

I’m sure I’ll be able to think of many more places I would like to go in time but this is my kind of ‘starter’ travel bucket list.

Of course it costs a lot to travel but I say if you’ve got the opportunity to go somewhere just do it because it’s likely to be nicer than you think. Comment below if you have any reccomendations as I love to travel and would be up to going anywhere if I could.

27 Things a girl thinks when getting ready for a night out

We all know how long girls take to get ready to go on a night out, but what exactly are we thinking in between having a hissy fit over our eyeliner and realising were already too drunk?

Read the next 27 things to find out.

  1. I need to wash my hair, it looks greasy.
  2. Wait no, I shouldn’t because it’ll just get sweaty and drinks are going to be all over the place and soak it.
  3. When should I start getting ready, I need enough time to do everything but I don’t want to be late to pre drinks but I also want to be a bit tipsy before I even leave the house.
  4. What should I wear?
  5. How should I do my hair?
  6. What colour eyeshadow should I use?
  7. I’m not going to have a big tea (or dinner, whatever you call it) so I get drunker and feel less guilty when I get takeaway later.
  8. I wonder whether I’ll be an angry drunk, an emotional drunk or a too-drunk-to-remember-what-happened-last-night drunk.
  9. What shoes will go with this outfit and allow me to dance my arse off without giving me permanent foot damage?
  10. *Puts party playlist on* I’m so in the mood to go out!
  11. How much money should I take?
  12. *Looks in bank account* well I’m going to have to look extra hot so that lads buy me drinks.
  13. I wonder if (insert name) is going to be out tonight.
  14. Bra or no bra?
  15. Probs shouldn’t wear a bodysuit so I can go to the loo easily and quickly so I can get back on the dancefloor and make a fool of myself.
  16. Who should I get to fasten up my dress?
  17. I think I’m too drunk to do my eyeliner.
  18. I’m too bloated to wear that.
  19. I need a wee already but I don’t want to ‘break the seal’ too soon.
  20. Tights or no tights?
  21. I wonder who’s going to pull tonight.
  22. UGH everyone is going to look way nicer than me.
  23. My hair looks dreadful.
  24. My makeup looks dreadful.
  25. I look fat.
  26. I’m not going out.
  27. You know what I don’t care it’s going to be dark anyway.

I personally think all of these thoughts when getting ready for a night out and I wouldn’t mind being one of those people that can get ready in like half an hour and look flawless without all the drama.

If you think completely different things, comment below so we can have a giggle.

My shoe collection

My shoes are like my babies. I don’t have many as I tend to wear the same shoes a lot and I definitely have autumn / winter and spring / summer shoes.

The basis of my shoe collection is made up of docs as they last so long and go with literally anything. I don’t own heels because I can’t walk in them for the life of me and also I don’t have anything to wear them for.

I’ll be starting off my shoe collection with:

Dr Martens 1461

I’m on my second pair of these and they are what I currently wear the most. I wear them with practically anything and I like to add some cool socks that go past my ankle just to jazz the look up a bit.

Dr Martens 1460

I wore these to Leeds fest this year and the mud was that bad that even after scraping, soaking AND being put in the washing machine they are still dirty. I love these docs just as much as my 1461’s and I think they look edgy with a midi skirt or dress.

Dr Martens 2976

These are in my autumn / winter collection as they only really go with tights and jeans which is something I don’t wear a lot in summer. I really like them and they’re one of my smarter pair of shoes.

Dr Martens Polley

These are the cutest pair of shoes I own and again, I like to add some pretty socks with them. However, they are also the most painful pair of shoes I own because for some reason they’re so hard to break in. I like to wear them when I go on a night out.

Chuck Taylor All Star Classic

I got these this year for my holiday in Florida because I had to do a lot of walking. I also really wanted them for a while before getting them but never had the money, but they were on sale so I could get them.

Vans Old Skool

I also wanted these for a long time before I got them and I like to wear them when I’m doing something casual because they’re comfy and go with a lot of outfits.

Asos Flatforms

I can’t find a link for these as I got them around 2 years ago but these are my dressy shoes that I wear with summery dresses and on special occasions. I like these as they’re comfy and edgy however they’re more summary as they really don’t go with tights.

Classic Birkenstock

These are so perfect for summer and lazy days when you just want to pop to the shop for some milk or whatever. They took a long time to break in but I just love the casual look they give and they go with everything.

Although a lot of my shoes are expensive, I’ve got a few of them either in a sale on for Christmas. They last really long too so I never have to buy shoes as they are suitable for any weather.

My tattoo story

I wanted a tattoo since I was 16 and from that point I knew what I was getting. I’ve always liked the traditional roses and I’ve never wanted a coloured tat so I added both of these ideas together, did some research, and came up with a grey rose- what a surprise!

I can’t really remember how I decided where I wanted my tattoo but as soon as I thought about having it on my upper back between my shoulder blades I pretty much didn’t change my mind.

So, when I was 16 and got my GCSE results my Mum took me to get the tattoo I desperately wanted as people had been telling us that you can get tattoos at the age of 16 as long as you’re accompanied by an adult.

We went to a piercing and tattooing shop and they said that it’s illegal to get one at the age of 16 even when you’re with an adult, and that if there’s people who do actually do that then we should be very wary about what else they’re doing wrong. So of course my Mum thought it best to wait till I was 18.

HOWEVER as I said in a previous post that I had acne since I was 13, so at the time of me being 18 and allowed a tattoo, I was on some medication that made all of my skin dry and sensitive meaning that I would be in a lot of pain and the tat would very likely be crap.

When I turned 19 I’d been off the meds for a while so I got the tattoo for my birthday. This was when I was in my first year at uni so I went back home to get it.

Deciding which place I was going to get it done at was also pretty easy as my friend had recently got one and not only was it a really good tattoo, it was also extremely reasonably priced. So I went to a place in Hull called Lucky 13.

As I said it was my first year at uni therefore I had new friends and one of them came back to Hull with me for a night out and to hold my hand whilst getting my tattoo.

Bad decision to go out the night before I got it. I was hanging out my arse. Unsurprisingly I made a complete fool out of myself- hangover + pain = me feeling like I was going to faint but instead was sick in the sink causing it to block. Not joking. I blocked the sink with my sick.

Pain-wise, the outline of the rose was probably the most painful as it was just 1 needle on the skin, the shading felt better however as it got to the end the artist was just shading on what felt like raw flesh.

All in all, it was my own fault I was sick because I was stupid and got too tipsy the night before, although whilst getting the tattoo done I just had to sit unsupported on a bed. I wondered why I wasn’t allowed to lay down but it was probably so the tattoo didn’t go a weird shape etc. The pain was bearable but at some points unbearable. Even so I’m deffo getting another one, maybe even for Christmas as my parents said I can.

If you have any Q’s on getting a tattoo comment them below and I’ll try to be as helpful as possible.

What’s in my bag?

We all have different bags for different occasions. I take different things with me depending on where I’m going so I have a casual bag, a going-out bag, and a uni bag.

I don’t always change the bag I use, just the things I put in it, but I do mainly use the bags shown in the pictures for what the occasion is.

Casual Bag

So, first of all there’s my casual bag which is what I use for things like going to town or going to the shops etc. I use one of my favourite bags (Dr Martens bag) for this because it’s the perfect size as it’s not too big or too small.

For shopping trips when I know I’m going to buy something, I like to take my Lush ‘Fighting animal testing’ bag as plastic bags cost 5p now and it helps the environment to use my own bag.

If I were to empty my bag as soon as I got in from shopping in town then it would probably be filled with my:

  • Keys
  • Phone
  • Chewing gum
  • Earphones
  • Bus tickets
  • Purse

Pretty stereotypical tbh, my favourite thing in that bag is of course the purse (side note: I once cried when I thought I lost it. Not because of the money, cards and ID inside it but because of the actual purse).

Going-out bag

I use this bag, obviously, for going out (meaning clubs, house parties etc) as it’s small and minimises what I take with me.

Taking the minimal is very important for someone as clumsy as me as I do stupid things like give NARS lippy away in the girls loo because I become overly nice to people I don’t know. Or drop my phone when waiting for a drink and the only way of fixing it is if I bite it.

So basically I take out my:

  • Keys
  • Phone
  • small purse (I put my ID, money and student card in it)
  • Lipstick

My boyfriend enjoys looking after my phone on nights out because he doesn’t trust me to not break it, and I’ve learnt my lesson and take a cheap lipstick out with me now.

Uni Bag

My uni bag is my biggest bag as I have to fit bigger stuff in it. I like to carry the necessities with me as I’ll never know what I need.

These include my:

  • Phone
  • Purse
  • Keys
  • Laptop
  • Notebook
  • Pens
  • Tampons
  • Drink

Loads of people on my course don’t really take their laptop but I enjoy doing my work on mine so it’s more accessible. It also means I can internet shop without being monitored by the lecturers.

So they’re the three main bags I use. Sometimes if I’m going home for the weekend I’ll take my Vans rucksack so that I can fit clothes and makeup in it. I also have a suede, tassle bag which is cute for casual occasions.

So there we have it, you now know what’s in my bag.
