‘When in Rome’ // Photographs

OK so it almost been a month since I went to Rome with my family but I’ve been that bloody busy that I’ve had no time to myself.

FINALLY the other day I got round to editing some of my better pics I took and I thought I’d share this lil’ Rome spread with you.

Enjoy, EG x

PINTEREST BOARD: Places

This weekly pinterest board is going to be ‘Places’. I chose this subject as I have nearly finished uni for summer meaning that I can finally get excited for going on holiday.

This year I’m going to Rome in April, somewhere in June with my boyfriend (haven’t booked it yet) and Cape Verde with my family in August. So I’m really craving some sun and a change of scenery.

A lot of the pins are very similar as I love going to natural places as I don’t usually see them due to living in busy Manchester. City life is good but sometimes I do need to escape it, so this is basically a board of pins of places I can see myself relaxing in and that are pretty much the polar opposite of the type of environment I live in now.

Like always, if you have any board ideas feel free to comment them.

Things To Do In Manchester: Visit The Cat Cafe

As I’ve said before in my 10 ‘fun’ facts about me post, I really like cats. It was my Birthday the other week and one of my good friends/housemates got me a trip to the Cat Cafe in Manchester with my boyfriend as a present. I was so excited.

So basically my friend booked it for us online, so that was an hour pre paid which was £12 per person. The good thing was that all drinks were included and you could have as many as you wanted, and they had a really good variety. You could also buy cakes and cookies etc for a little bit extra, and if you wanted to stay longer they just added £1 per 5 minutes onto your bill.

So the experience started off with us entering the reception-type area where we were given a little card that said how long we could stay for (unless we wanted to pay extra which was fine).

We were then told the rules which are:

  • You cannot wake a cat if it is sleeping.
  • You also are not allowed to pick cats up or feed them any food that is not provided by Cat Café.
  • Do not use flash photography.
  • High heeled shoes are prohibited (even with shoe covers).
  • Entry to children under the age of 10 is not allowed.
  • Only 2 people can play with a cat at a time.

We were also told to put shoe covers on or to take our shoes off (we took ours off).

After we put or shoes in the lockers provided we went through a door where the actual cats were. I’m not going to lie, I expected a lot more cats to be walking around however I agree with the fact that they allow the cats to go wherever they want and whenever.

They had sofas placed around the cafe along with small tables and floor cushions, and just normal tables and chairs which made the vibe very relaxed and almost like a living room in your own home.

In my opinion you could tell that the cats were used to being stroked and played with so they weren’t overly loving and as I said there weren’t many cats walking around meaning there weren’t many to actually stroke with the 2 people per cat rule.

The staff were really nice and you could tell they cared about the cats which was nice to see.

All in all I really enjoyed the experience as it was a nice day therefore it was relaxing, the only downside was that I adore cats and there just weren’t many to stroke or get to know, and when there was you couldn’t anyway because they were asleep and you’re not allowed to disturb them.

I would definitely go just to experience it and I think it was such a good present idea, I just feel like because it was raved about so much that my expectations were higher. I definitely think people should check it out especially for the price with drinks included, and if you have no other way to get some cat loving like me as I’m at uni and don’t see my cat very often then it’s a good way to cheer yourself up a bit.

Let me know what your thoughts are if you’ve been to a cat cafe before!

PINTEREST BOARD: Home Inspiration

OK so I know I haven’t posted in a while but it’s that time again where I have loads of uni work and I need to focus on getting that done which means unfortunately I can’t post as much as I’d like to.

I have however come up with a few weekly ideas which include a weekly Pinterest board and an OOTW (outfit of the week). These along with other blog posts will hopefully mean I’ll be blogging a lot more, especially as I’ve nearly finished my second year of uni.

This weeks Pinterest board (as you can tell from the title) will be based on what I would like my home to be inspired by.

You’ll probably know by now that I’m a student so can’t actually put these things into action just yet, but a girl can dream right?

I’ve been really into home DIY videos on Youtube at the moment which is really making me want to be rich enough to afford my own place. For now I’m sticking to Pinterest to help inspire my thoughts, and hopefully in a few years I’ll be the one posting pretty pics like the ones I’ve saved.

So, here’s the board of dreams.

If you’d like to see me do a board on something you like, comment below and I’d be happy to do it!

HAIR TUTORIAL: 10 Steps To A Romantic Updo

Yes it’s just been Valentines Day and no, I do not celebrate it.

The whole reason I came up with this updo is because I wanted to start wearing my hair up but my hair is at that awkward length where it’s not long but not short.

This Monday was mine and my boyfriends year anniversary so I sort of came up with the idea in my head and thankfully it worked out. I just wanted to have a change from my regular messy waves and Joe (my boyfriend) really liked how I did my hair and told me to do a tutorial on it.

I think it would work on any texture, length or thickness and it’s also quick and easy. Without the edits it took me 20 minutes to do and I have thick hair, so it could even fit into a morning routine!

The products I used are literally just things I have lying around so you don’t have to go out and buy loads of expensive things. These are:

  • Hairspray
  • Dry Shampoo
  • Grips/Bobby Pins
  • Small Bobbles/Elastics
  • Curling Wand (any size/brand)

If you’d like to try out this romantic updo, watch the video below and follow the steps.

If you’d like to see more hair tutorials feel free to like or comment.

OOTD

This outfit of the day is perfect for casual occasions and days when it’s cold but you still want to look cool.

1

I’ve always held back from wearing jeans and I didn’t wear them (or trousers etc) for over two years but bought some last year in the winter period when it was cold. I didn’t like wearing jeans because I’m really self conscious about my legs but I just thought fuck it and to not care what people think about me.

I’m glad I did because I feel more relaxed in them and don’t have to worry about them blowing up and showing my knickers when it’s windy.

This year I really wanted some flares as they’re really in ATM and I also liked the frayed jeans.

4.jpg

For some reason I was lucky and found some on New Look’s website so I ordered them. I must say I was skeptical about them not fitting me as I have big thighs and bum and a small waist.

I tried them on and was so glad they were stretchy because now I have two pairs of jeans! Yey me.

I’m obsessed with striped T shirts, especially long sleeved ones, and this one was in the sale at H&M so it was a must-buy.

2.jpg

As for the converse they go with literally anything and are probably my comfiest shoes. I like the casual look they give to the outfit.

Also I got the bag for Christmas and it has elephants on it so it must go with everything- yes because elephants are the best it means the bag goes with everything.

Finally, if it’s cold (which it is) I like to add my long duster jacket as it makes it look really relaxed and kind of an 80’s style.

My Outfit

  • T shirt- H&M £4
  • Jeans– New Look £24.99
  • Shoes– Converse £50
  • Bag- Next (Christmas present)

Hope you liked my casual outfit, if you’ve got any recommendations on what you think it would look good with, comment them below.

REVIEW: Nivea Daily Essentials BB Cream

Ok so this is a bit of a tricky review for me as I adore Nivea products however hate this one.

I’ll start off by saying I’ve tried the Tinted Moisturising Day Cream and absolutely loved it so thought that I’d try the BB cream when I came across it the other day whilst I was in Body Care.

These were what the product states it does:

3

The instructions for application also say to “Apply the cream on cleansed face by gently massaging in small circles.”

2

As I said I love Nivea products and had really high hopes for this one but it really didn’t live up to my expectations and here’s why:

  • Even after I’d moisturised and primed my face with hydrating primer it seemed to stick to my dry patches which made it look uneven and really irritated my skin.
  • I started off by applying the cream in the specified way to apply it and it looked blotchy and patchy so I tried using a makeup sponge, the same thing happened.
  • The skin match was horrific as I have light skin in the winter but I wouldn’t say it’s fair, however the lightest shade made my face look orange.
  • It says that it refines the appearance of pores but my pores seemed to show more than they normally would, even without makeup on.
  • I never really use powder all over my face as I feel it makes my skin look dry and cakey however I tried to fix the look by packing it all over my face, this made my skin all itchy.

I’d say this product has two pros if I’m being generous and they are the smell- I absolutely love the smell of it as it smells like most Nivea products do, and it is SPF 10 to protect your skin from the sun.

I’d like to say that maybe it’s just because it’s winter and my skin is all dry and pale and that if it were summer and I were to try out the product again (which I might do) it would have a better effect.

Or it could just be my bad application. Either way, for me this product was a 1 out of 5, purely because it did the complete opposite to my skin to what it said it would do.

If you have any BB cream recommendations (preferably under a tenner) then please suggest them in the comments as I am desperate!!
